My Priorities

Parents First

As your Delegate, I will honor parents’ rights in their children’s education and upbringing.

As an Asian American, first generation immigrant, and a single parent of three FCPS children actively involved in their education, I share your values of respect and trust in our parents as well as belief in our abilities to guide our children.  I believe that parents should be informed and involved in what is being taught to our children. I believe parents should have the option of rejecting or opting-out if they don’t agree with what is being taught to their children. Parents should also have more choices in advancing their children’s academics as they think best.

As your delegate, I will work to empower parents to restore their fundamental right to play an active role in their children’s education.  I will work to get parents more choices to advance their children’s academics, whether it is with admission to Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology, or expanding advanced curriculums at other schools.

Protect Our Environment

I am deeply concerned about the construction of data centers next to our neighborhoods.

According to the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, Northern Virginia is home to around 50% of U.S. data centers.  The explosion of data centers in Loudoun and Prince William County has wreaked havoc on the surrounding environment, including air and noise pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and shortage of water — not to mention the strain on the energy grid.  Dominion ratepayers are on the hook to fund the infrastructure, paying for high power transmission lines surrounding their homes, which devalue their neighborhoods.

Data center expansion is coming to Fairfax County along the Route 50 corridor, including in HD-9.  The Virginia Supreme Court ruled on March 23 that the new Fairfax County Zoning Ordinance (zMOD) was illegal. But rather than allow the public time to digest and comment on the 691-page document, the Democrat-controlled Board of Supervisors rushed to reapprove the new zoning ordinance — giving citizens little time to prepare their responses and objections, or to even realize that zMOD will allow by-right construction of data centers close to residential neighborhoods.

As your delegate, I will ensure that your objections are heard and regulations are in place to prevent data centers from being built in areas that are harmful and detrimental to surrounding residents.

Protect Our Livelihood

I am committed to solving the rising crime rate in Fairfax County and stopping the influx of Fentanyl.

Since 2020, more than 90% of all opioid overdose deaths in Fairfax Health District have involved fentanyl.  Non-fatal opioid overdose in 2022 increases about 50% since 2019.  Crimes against person are up 10.5 percent and crimes against property are up 19.1 percent from 2021 to 2022.

As your delegate, I will work to secure funding for a Task Force of law enforcement and community leaders dedicated to preventing the flow of fentanyl into our communities.

I will work to secure funding to address the anemic police staffing shortage where the Fairfax County Police Department is still short nearly 200 police officers.

I will work on expanding the availability of mental health resources – making health support stigma-free, affordable, and accessible.
